Plötzlicher KindstodEin Biomarker aus dem Fersenblut könnte gefährdete Babys identifizieren
Der plötzliche Kindstod ist für viele Eltern ein Schreckgespenst: Am Abend legt man ein scheinbar völlig gesundes Baby schlafen, am nächsten Morgen liegt es tot in seinem Bettchen. Nun stellen Wissenschaftler aus Australien eine Methode vor, mit der man Babys mit einem erhöhten Risiko für plötzlichen Kindstod bereits kurz nach der Geburt identifizieren könnte.1

Erstautorin der im Lancet-Open-Access Journal eBioMedicine publizierten Fall-Kontroll-Studie ist die australische Biochemikerin Dr. Carmel Therese Harrington, die selbst ein Kind durch plötzlichen Kindstod verloren hat. Die gesamte Studie wurde durch eine Crowd-Funding-Kampagne finanziert, die ihrem verstorbenen Sohn gewidmet ist.
